I guess you could say I’ve been involved in-home improvement projects quite often in my life. At this very minute my husband is finishing the drywall in our living room, and will soon be painting it. While it’s great to see the finished product, the process can be very messy.

One thing that a lot of homes seem to be missing is plants. Adding some plants to your living environment can spruce up your home infusing it with some life. Plants are not only a great design element, but make your home decorations seem complete and add a touch of nature to your rooms.

A great way to add ambience to a room is by lighting a candle. Candles are a romantic gesture in any setting, but also give off a warm glow providing a room with the feeling of warmth and coziness. If your candle is scented, it also gives off a nice scent in the room while making you feel relaxed.

When it comes to home improvement, consider purchasing quality products in stead of cheaper ones, and this will result in a much higher return on your investment. While you may save money initially by the cost of the parts, their durability may be much lesser than those of higher quality. An example of this would be buying a quality granite counter top instead of Formica.

Try keeping your building materials up between the ceiling rafters. Even large supplies can be tucked away. Simply nail a couple of furring strips across two of your exposed floor joists or rafters and slip in the material to be stored.

When doing any repair work or home improvement project, debris will be generated. It is therefore necessary to designate a space for the debris. Getting rid of all that debris can be a big expense, so it is critical that you plan ahead in order to economize and avoid delays with regard to your project.

How to paint an indoor room quickly and easily. If possible, try to do all your painting in daylight hours, as artificial light can cause you to miss small areas. Tackle the ceiling first, painting around the edges in bands, and working your way into the center. The walls should be painted starting at the top, and working downwards in sections.

Improve your front entrance curb appeal by adding oversized house numbers and a large size light fixture. Making your entrance eye catching and appealing will increase the value of your home and the homes around you. If your neighbors like your improvements, they may try it themselves and increase the value of the whole neighborhood.

We have a home which is over 100 years old and updating it has been an ongoing process over the past five years. We have a new dining room, two new bathrooms and half of a new kitchen. Recently, my husband installed four new windows and put new siding on half of the house. I can’t wait for the whole thing to be done!
